Greek Language & Culture for Kids 9-10

Who is this course for?

The course is aimed at children from 9 to 10 years old who are interested in learning the Greek Language as well as participating in other course related activities.

What you will learn in this course

Beginners Α (complete/absolute Beginners or some exposure to the Greek language).  Students will be able to recognize, read and write the letters of τhe Alphabet, syllables and simple words and phrases.  Also, short sentences with the verb to “be” and the verb “have”. They also will be able to recognize many memorized words, phrases and small sentences from their book   and online classes. Moreover, they will be able to communicate on some very familiar topics using words and phrases, structural patterns and simple sentences they have practiced and memorized (from book, songs, videos etc.)

Beginners B’ (for students they have finished previous book ) 

Students are going to read, pronounce and understand simple, short texts and dialogues and recognize familiar words, phrases and very short sentences from the book and online classes when they hear them spoken. They will learn to communicate on very familiar topics using a basic daily vocabulary with words and phrases that they have practiced and memorized. Also they are going to write basic vocabulary lists and they are going to start writing very simple memorized phrases and sentences on familiar topics such as, school life, hobbies, games, sports and more.

How much time will I spend per week?

The student will spend an average of 4-5 hours per week. Greek Language will be offered twice a week for a period of 1 ½ hours. The Greek Language class will be supplemented by other activities such as but not limited to dance, arts and crafts and a reading program. 

When does the course start and when is expected to be completed

The Fall Semester starts in September and ends shortly before Christmas. The Winter/Spring Semester starts in January and ends in May. For exact dates please see the Calendar.

What are the prerequisites for this course?

There are no prerequisites for this course except good mood and a desire to learn.

Will there be an exam or some certification?

No. There are no exams in this course. Greek School Online will provide at the end of the course a certificate of successful attendance. Caution! If you wish to obtain a language proficiency certification from the Greek Language Center, look for the Ellinomatheia courses we offer
